By passing Measures S & W by an overwhelming majority, Berkeley’s voters have once again shown their solid support for our parks and playing fields, and have ensured that our park system will have adequate maintenance resources in the coming years. Because of this generosity, the partnership between the Parks Department and volunteer groups, such as Berkeley Partners for Parks and the Association of Sports Field Users, will continue to flourish. Thank you everyone! I’m proud to live in a city where voters care about their parks, libraries, schools, and services for people with disabilities.

Vote Yes on S & W

In the past few years, the Berkeley park system has been expanded and improved in response to public demand.  New elements include:

  • New Tot Lots at Thousand Oaks, Totland, Willard and San Pablo Parks
  • Halcyon Commons
  • Dream Land for Kids at Aquatic Park
  • Gabe Catalfo Playing Fields
  • Skate Park at Harrison (in progress)
  • Bay Trail (in progress)
  • I-80 bicycle-pedestrian overpass (in progress0

We've made the investment in these new projects.  Now we need to pass Measures S & W so they receive adequate maintenance over the coming years.  Acreage in our park system has doubled in size, while resources have lagged behind.  Measure S provides these resources by modestly raising the Parks Maintenance Tax rate (by $15 a year for the typical Berkeley home of 1900 sq. ft.).  Measure W reauthorizes the existing Parks Maintenance Tax voters passed overwhelming in 1997.

Help Pass S & W

Dear Supporters of Berkeley's Parks, Playing Fields, and City Landscaping:

Dear Friends, Members, & Supporters of Berkeley Partners for Parks,

Berkeley Partners for Parks wholeheartedly thanks you for all your continued efforts in support of Measures S & W.

I have just learned from the folks who are running the BPFP endorsed Measures S & W campaign that the S & W Campaign is in dire need of volunteers and further financial contributions. The good news is that there are still 10 days left in the campaign and together we can turn things around.

Just imagine what an additional $600,000 per year could mean to our parks in Berkeley. Your additional help and assistance will make the difference and is sorely needed. Vote Yes for Measures S & W on November 7th.

Can you put up a window and/or yard sign? Please send an email to Mark Liolios at markl@lmi.net.   Let Mark know your name and address and whether you'd like a window sign and/or a yard sign.

Can you spare a half-hour or two to in your busy schedule? Send an email to JKelekian@aol.com.   Notify him that you can help distribute campaign literature, window and yard signs, and/or make phone calls.

From today, 10/26/2000 through November 5, I humbly ask every member, friend, supporter and member organization of Berkeley Partners for Parks to call at least three friends and acquaintances to inform them of Measures S & W and ask the three people you call to in turn call three friends and acquaintances to inform them of Measures S & W.

Please also consider making a financial $$$ contribution to the S & W campaign today. (Checks should be made to Support Our Parks, c/o Gordon Wozniak, treasurer, 141 Parkside Drive, Berkeley 94705. Write your occupation and employer in the bottom left portion of the check to meet campaign financing law.)

Thank you in advance for your time, continued support, and participation.

With tremendous gratitude. Stay Well. Zasa.
